Helping Lauren, a brave single mother, in her battle with cancer.
Lauren is a 48-year old, single mother of two daughters from southern Johannesburg. Her best friend says she's kind, generous and very supportive of those the loves. She's the kind of person that would help a stranger - even if she has little or nothing. Some three years ago, Lauren was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The chemo and mastectomy healed the cancer, but she couldn't work and her personal and financial situation took a serious knock. She sold most of her belongings and moved three times. Her youngest daughter is now in Grade 7. And, the cancer came back with a vengeance in her lungs, liver and chest. Lauren is in desperate need of help with the basics and also some kind of job ... that would accommodate her treatment as she has no income.

This wish is for my best friend Lauren, (Lolly, Thelma, my bestest). Lolly had breast cancer 3 years ago and had to have one breast removed, during this time she couldn’t work, as chemo took over her life, she had a partner at the time, that managed to bring the money in, but unfortunately he's not around anymore. Lolly managed to fight the cancer and has been in remission, for 1 year, although the cancer and chemo has had its side effects and taken its toll. The tablets she is on gives her the most intense back pain and she has had to resort to voltarine pain killers just to deaden the pain, which results in Lolly not being able to do much, work wise, as getting up is a task for her. Lolly has moved 3 times in 1 year, sold 90% of her stuff just to keep her head above water, her Dogs are and were her life, they helped in the healing with the chemo as animals do, but Lolly had to even give her dogs away, as she was battling to feed them, and gradually started selling her belongings.
Lolly has 2 daughters, Erin and Olivia. Erin is the eldest daughter and tries to help where she can, as she is working. Olivia is still in school, std 5, going to high school next year. They stay in the South of Johannesburg, .
Lolly is the type of person that will open her home to anyone who needs a place to stay even if they cannot give her anything or even if she can’t give them anything, she will help them. She will take in a sick animal, even if it means she won’t have any food, but as long as her kids and animals eat, she is happy, she prays every day for help.
My hubby and I try and help where we can, money or food, petrol to help her, I have sent her cv off to many people for her, as she had to sell her laptop, and 3g card. We have tried to help with money or food where we can, and her family but in this day and age it does get tricky.
My bestest friend has always been there for me, and even though we only met 8 years ago, I feel like it’s been a lifetime. Best friends that you can trust with your life don't come around very often, and let me tell you, we've been to hell and back together. We call ourselves Thelma and Louise, and even through her cancer we always managed to stay positive, and laugh. The cancer was hard as Lolly sometimes lost the will, but with her friends and family, being silly and not giving up the will to live, I sat with Lolly on my 35th birthday while she had her chemo, and I wouldn’t have celebrated my birthday any differently, than sitting with my best.
With a deep sense of sadness we started 2013 with the news that Lauren is yet to face another battle with cancer, this time in her lung, liver and chest. She is going to undergo intense chemo therapy at the Jhb Gen.
As I’m sure you are aware Lauren has been unemployed for the last year , she has to play Mom and Dad and support her two children, the close family have supported her as much as they can, but it isn’t enough ,I’ve been thinking that charity begins at home and instead of us donating to charities that are not so close to the home, rather donate to someone we know and love.
My wish for Lolly is just some kind of financial help with paying her rent and worrying about money. She is 48 and is willing to do anything EVEN THROUGH THE ACHES AND PAINS THAT SHE IS HAVING LATELY DUE TO THE CANCER, just to keep a roof over her head, and food on the table for her kids. Lolly is a fantastic person with a big heart, she has been to hell, but still sitting there cause she just can’t seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel, she is constantly stressed about how she will pay her rent, or put food on the table, or even get to a job interview as petrol is also a luxury to her.
Please please consider this wish, anything will help, even if it’s something small. Lolly is good person, with a huge heart, she just needs a breather, to get back on her feet, and get 100% well again. Please please please help her.
Thanking you for taking the time to read my request. I really hope you grant this, for one of the bestest friends in the world.. Lauren Fouche..... Thelma and Louise.....
