Sasol: Candles for Global Diversity
At Sharpville‚??s Ikageng Old Age Centre, a small scale candle making project was started in order to assist the elderly at the centre to engage in a meaningful activity, as well as selling the candles to help raise funds. Elderly volunteers manufacture and package a variety of candles that are usually sold to the community. Sasol needed something that would connect the delegates and harness the message of diversification at their Global Diversity Dialogue event.
The aim of the event was to bring prominent Sasol leaders into a space where they could celebrate and understand diversity both within Sasol, as well as in their outreach to communities.
Sasol‚??s ChemCity got involved with Ikageng to come up with their own brand of candles, which helped to uplift the centre by providing the volunteers with additional training and advice in improving their final product. ChemCity is Sasol‚??s business incubator where they facilitate the establishment of small, medium and micro enterprises in the chemical, energy and related industries, especially in rural communities.
Ikageng‚??s partnership with Sasol helped them to streamline their production and improve the quality of their products.
At Sasol‚??s Global Diversity Dialogue event, all the participants simultaneously lit the candles as a symbol of lighting the flame of diversity.
