Vent! Is about sharing stories and solving problems by engaging the youth to create momentum for change. As part of it's skills development and capacity building initiatives, Sasol launched a programme in Sasolburg with social entrepreneur Heather Costaras, that saw 51 youth participate in an arts development workshop over four months, culminating in a state of the art gala production.
The workshops were held by experienced industry professionals, allowing the youths to be taught by some of the best performers, artists and dancers in South Africa.
'Vent!' offered them the opportunity to express their emotions through creativity, in any art form they chose. So in essence, this project allowed them to Vent, literally.
Through the various sessions, these emotions were work shopped so that these youngsters could use this platform to channel their emotions creatively through art.
The mixture of emotion, opinion and skill soon formed dance, drama and artwork,
culminated in a production over two nights in June 2011.
The group gained top-class experience from the best in the business, which allowed them to develop their own portfolio and DVD, documenting their own journeys through the project. They can use this portfolio to market themselves as professional artists.
