Sasol: Kristopher Ryan Centre
At Sasol, the upliftment of people is a significant aspect of our business practice, and we focus our investments in areas that contribute to the wellbeing of communities. One of the organisations that we sponsor is the Kristopher Ryan Centre in Secunda that provides vocational training for young adults with disabilities.
The Kristopher Ryan Centre plays an important role in Secunda, as it provides care for adults with intellectual impairment, education and stimulation opportunities, as well as developmental growth. As a non-profit organisation, they needed to supplement the school‚??s income so they could continue making a difference and stimulating the learners to improve their potential of being more and more independent.
To provide the centre with the opportunity to generate its own income and be sustainable, Sasol in partnership with Siyabonga Africa provided the school with funding, training and a structure to operate a bakery.
The bakery was opened in 2009 and has been operating profitably to date. They supply biscuits to various companies in the surrounding areas, clinics and shops and also take orders for special events like weddings and other functions.
